This place is fantastic, the owner is such a genuinely great dude. Highly recommend checking this gym out
I was visiting from out of town for work and needed a gym to continue my routine, momentum is key. Great Hall Iron is an amazing no nonsense gym filled with everything you need and nothing you don’t. Dan was very responsive when I put in a few questions on his website. He answered all of my questions within minutes over text. This gym is clean, well lit, not crowded (at least between 5:45-7:15 M-F when I was there), plenty of equipment. I was able to get my full GZCL lifting program in all week without issue. Two clean bathrooms for use/changing in. I’m sad to leave this gym and go back to my home gym experience because Great Hall Iron is great and at a great price.
The best gym ever! Seriously, everything you need and don’t need. The best equipment (Rogue, Life Fitness, etc), 24/7 access, affordable rates, clean, never really busy…what’s not to love! I’m sad to say bye to this lovely little place!
Great Hall Iron is an extraordinary barbell/functional fitness facility, made all the more amazing by being such a well-equipped facility in Homer, Alaska. Great Hall Iron has the tools a person needs to become the fittest version of themselves. As of October 2023, the workout area includes a heavy duty Hammer Strength dual power rack with a center pull-up station. It also includes six plate-loaded Hammer Strength machines, as well as a Rogue GHD and reverse hyper. There is a stand-alone flat bench and incline bench, dumbbells from very small to 125 lbs, kettlebells to 40 kg/88 lbs, and an assortment of flat and adjustable incline benches. The cardio area has two each of treadmills, elliptical, and rowers, and one stationary bike. Most of the barbells are Hammer Strength with moderate knurl and no center knurl. But Great Hall also has a Texas Deadlift Bar, Texas Squat Bar, and Texas Bench Bar. They have a significant amount of Kabuki equipment, including the Transformer Bar, step-in trap deadlift bar, Kadillac Bar, and Duffalo Bar. They also have a Bells of Steel IPF-style power bar with thin collars and aggressive knurling. It is a very inclusive environment, with more than half female members and members of all body types. In addition to a waiver, you will have to sign a “no harassment” acknowledgment - awesome! It’s also useful to say what Great Hall Iron is not. It’s not a glam fitness facility with mirrors everywhere and tons of selectorized machines. That’s just not what they are. It is also not a CrossFit affiliate. If you are in town and looking to get in a WOD they will have a lot of your tools, but there are no group fitness classes, and no sound system. Folks come in, put on their headphones, and do their thing. And it is not a barbell dungeon. It is well lit and clean. Chalk is allowed but not provided, and there is a strong ethos of cleaning up after one’s self. Overall an extraordinary facility is one of Alaska’s most scenic towns!
Thank you Rob. It was a real honor to have not only an Alaskan power lifting legend, but a nationally recognized power lifter visit the gym. Hope to see you next time!
Good view, quiet and clean! Plenty of clean towels for the equipment, great cardio equipment upstairs and great selection of kettle balls. Loved the reverse hyper machine. Will definitely use this gym next time in Homer!! Can’t beat the pricing for a guest pass.
Thank you Miranda! Happy to have you for a visit and hope to see you again soon!
