I never thought I would get into Muay Thai or any combat sport for that matter. Before my first session, I expected a bunch of ego driven angry fighters, but that couldn’t have been further from the truth. Heavy Hitters was welcoming and accepted me with open arms. Everyone that trains there is very supportive and motivated to get better at their craft. The more times I went to class, the more I wanted to learn from my mistakes and get better. The community is a positive and upbeat environment. I’m glad I walked in that front door and put my pride aside.
Heavy Hitters has been a fantastic place to come back to Muay Thai after several years away. The muscle memory came back faster than my conditioning, and Coach Mike does a great job meeting people at their level. The gym offers a strong variety of classes, and the Fundamentals class stands out as a great all-levels option. The conditioning pushes you, but it stays manageable; the class puts real focus on technique for both beginners and experienced fighters, and there are more advanced classes (including an all-women's one!) and open gym options as well. Mike also does a great job explaining the technical side of each technique. He gives simple, easy-to-follow explanations of body mechanics that make it much easier to understand and refine your form. He also moves around the room, pays attention, and gives friendly corrections and useful pointers throughout class. One of my favorite things about the gym is Mike’s Monday email, where he lays out the focus for the week—e.g. elbows, clinch work, punch combinations, or how different strikes set up other moves. It gives me something to look forward to and helps me plan around an old back injury. If I know a certain focus might aggravate it, I can skip that class and hit open gym instead. Mike also respects injuries, offers smart modifications, and tells people to listen to their bodies. No macho nonsense—just thoughtful coaching, solid structure, and a welcoming gym. If you want a gym with strong coaching, smart programming, and a supportive atmosphere, Heavy Hitters is a great choice.
I started training muay thai three months ago on a whim and I’ve never been happier. As someone who has been relatively sedentary for the past decade, attending the fundamentals classes has totally changed my life. Coach Mike is welcoming from the moment you step in the gym, he asks questions about your fitness goals, and even followed up with me via email after my first class to offer support. I’ve learned so much about the history of muay thai and I really appreciate that there’s so much respect for the cultural significance of the sport. The community is sick, everyone is so welcoming and friendly, and I never feel out of place, even when I’m the only non-man in the room. Music is great, gym is clean. Riz (teaches the women’s class) is awesome and has taught me so much about technique. Heavy Hitters has so much to offer, for beginners like myself, to advanced folks who are training to fight. Joining this gym has been the best decision I’ve made in many years and it’s all thanks to the dedicated coaches and the culture of inclusivity and respect!
I want to start by saying I’ve trained here for about a year and a half, and joining was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. The environment is welcoming, motivating, and pushes you to be better every time you step foot in the gym. I’ve built an amazing group of friends here that goes far beyond just training. Coach Mike (and all of the other coaches) is top-notch and focuses heavily on strong fundamentals, which has helped me grow not only in Muay Thai skill but also in confidence and discipline. Training at Heavy Hitters teaches you a lot about yourself, both mentally and physically — but you have to put the work in. If you do, it will pay off more than you could imagine. Whether you’re brand new or experienced, this gym will challenge you, support you, and help you become a stronger version of yourself. I recommend it 10/10 times — it’s worth every penny.
Heavy Hitters is an amazing gym with a great community and atmosphere! Coach Mike is very welcoming and makes sure everyone is on the same page and not left in the dark. The team is also very friendly and encouraging. It’s the perfect place for newcomers looking to start their journey into Muay Thai. There are classes for all levels, whether you’re a beginner or advanced, and neither will disappoint. I’m 3 months into my journey, and I’ve already seen an improvement physically and mentally. Don’t wait—join!
