I’ve trained in Brazilian for over 15 years. Yamasaki Academy Springfield has the best Brazilian Jiu jitsu instruction I’ve had, period. Francisco Neto is a phenomenal instructor with a professional and systematic approach to the art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. It does not matter if you’re a competitor or looking for a fun and practical way to get or stay in shape, Yamasaki Academy Springfield has what you are looking for.
What an amazing gym! My family wanted to take a break from wrestling, so we decided to try out Yamasaki BJJ and Sport Judo for a few months. I could not be more pleased with the experience. If you are looking for a place that balanced grace and rigor in a kid's program, highly recommend allowing you kids to come try this dojo. I know that we are better for having spent the past few months training here! Thank you to all of the wonderful coaches who work so hard to help our little kids develop in so many ways!
My son has been enrolled at Yamasaki Springfield, and it’s been such a positive experience for him. The instructors are patient, encouraging, and really know how to connect with kids. They keep the classes structured but still fun, which has made my son excited to show up and try his best. We’ve noticed a big boost in his confidence and focus since starting. He’s proud of what he’s learning, and we love seeing him grow not just in skill, but in discipline and responsibility. The environment is welcoming, clean, and very family‑friendly, and the staff is always helpful and easy to talk to. I’m really grateful for the impact this place has had on him. If you’re looking for a martial arts school where your child can feel supported and motivated, Yamasaki Springfield is a great choice.
I've had my son in BJJ at the Springfield location for about 2 years. I was looking for a place to help him grow as a young man, develop a sense of respect for himself and others, in addition to the physical rewards that come with martial arts. This place has been great for him. The instructors are legit and the training appears to be the real deal (from my untrained perspective). Hoping to get my younger one involved in the coming years. I have recommended Yamasaki to other parents who are looking for a more challenging and disciplined martial arts experience for their kids. Classes always start and end on time, making scheduling and commuting easy. And the staff has been friendly and responsive to me when I've had questions. A big thank you to coach Neto and his team.
Tore my ACL in 2022 and asked to cancel my membership and shared a doctors note. My request to cancel was ignored even though I followed the process outlined in the contract and I was offered an indefinite freeze instead. 3 years later I see a charge on my account from Yamasaki Academy. I reached out and was told I never formally cancelled my account (even though I requested a cancellation which they ignored). They can’t explain what prompted them to charge me or unfreeze my account years later, not to mention that they did not even have my current card information but still managed to charge me. They refuse to issue a refund claiming they charged me for a past due balance. I asked them for proof of this via my account ledger and they informed me the past due balance was for 2025, 3 years after I had step foot in their building and 2 years after I moved out of state. Needless to say you should heed the advice of other reviews. Regardless of the quality of instruction they have incredibly shady billing practices. If you are dead set on training here, I highly recommend a prepaid debit card so you can avoid whatever misdealing they like to do with payment accounts.
