The tone and culture of teaching, learning, and excellence is set by owner/operator Charles DeVirgilio. Charles refers to the training sessions as ‘lessons’ and cross-training as part of the ‘curriculum’ because there truly is high quality learning to be had for participants of all skill/experience levels. Charles’s knowledge and experience in both eastern/traditional and more western/modern martial arts and combat sports is both wide and deep. Charles more recently (within last few years) added muay thai to the programming at the school, and consistent with his pursuit of excellence, has partnered with Kru Mark DellaGrotte (Sityodtong), a leading muay thai and combat sports coach/instructor/trainer who has trained and cornered many professional fighters including multiple athletes that competed for UFC championship titles. Together they have created a top tier muay thai program at Alton Street Boxing & Fitness right in Arlington, MA! The school has something for everybody (check out the variety of programming online) and Iron Palm (especially if you’ve never done it before) training is a hidden gem. The school is definitely undermarketed for the quality of the instruction and programming- this becomes very obvious after you engage with Charles and begin training, wherever you might be in that journey…
I took training of boxing and Muay Thai at Alton Street Boxing for a little over a year until I moved to the west coast. I really enjoyed the lessons here. All the instructors I worked with -- Charles, Todd, and Kru Mark, were all very professional, friendly, and encouraging. Martial art has become my main sport now because of my experience here. Apart from techniques, they also build a culture of perseverance and respect, making me want to introduce martial arts to my kid in the future. I also made a lot of friends at those classes, it is hard not to. I would recommend Alton Street Boxing to anyone.
Thank you Yifan, you are missed!

I have been taking the boxing and cardio class at Alton Street for over a year now. I have nothing but great things to say about the school. All the instructors are kind and helpful, and the school does excellent job of creating a community that made it easy for me to stay on track of my fitness goals.
