I don’t know how people use this gym. I have stopped by on 3 separate occasions in the last month. The door is open and no staff anywhere in sight. There are weights and trash left on the floor, weights left racked in the weight racks and machines. There was no soap in the bathroom, no paper towels or cleaner out to wipe down the machines. Several pieces appeared rusted and had frayed cables, but if there’s no staff I guess there’s no one to care either. This is just plain disappointing for a gym, and I don’t know how anyone feels safe working out in a place like this

Best free gym on the coast! To be honest I didn’t even know we had a free gym and had tried to call to inquire about memberships but no one ever answered. When I stopped in to ask, the gym was completely accessible and there seem to be no employees. It’s a bit messy and broken down, some questionable violations with the emergency exits blocked with equipment, but who can complain about free! Also, I’ve noticed on occasion that it doubles as a homeless shelter which is a nice value add for the community. The thing that bothers me most is the truck always parked right in front of the entrance even though the entire lot is empty.

I am disappointed but not surprised that after I reported the following complaint to the owner, Michael, no attempt was made to contact me or resolve my issue. Obviously, America's Top Team does not know how to treat customers or run a business. Stay away from this gym. Full complaint below. Michael, My wife and I have been members of your gym for over a decade and have enjoyed working out together there until recently. I don't know what my membership number is, but the card id number on my access card, which still reads Southern Elite, is *******. Like many others, I am hyper-sensitive to fragrances. My reaction varies depending on the concentration of the aroma. When my wife and I visited your gym on Tuesday, October 21st, we were greeted by the aroma of fragrance that can only be described as overpowering. As per usual when confronted with strong fragrance, within minutes my eyes became swollen and itchy and I developed a splitting headache. I immediately went to the front desk to see if something could be done. My distress was met with utter confusion and inaction. Although anyone could easily tell that the fragrance permeated the entire gym, the woman behind the desk suggested to me (more than once) that the cause was some spot cleaning performed at the front desk earlier that day. The only action she was willing to take was to fill out a form. Obviously, no one at America's Top Team was willing to help me. With a cursory walk around the perimeter, I discovered several plug-in fragrance air fresheners. I unplugged three, delivered them to the front desk, and said, "Here. This is what is causing the smell. Can you please open the front and back door to remove the scent?" Although the woman manning the front desk had thankfully propped open the front door, I was left to prop open the back door to allow the air flow to begin reducing the stench. About fifteen minutes later your "manager", Monica, approached me and asked if I was the one having the problem. I confirmed that I was and awaited an apology for your lack of consideration by plugging in an excessive number of air fresheners. However, I was shocked when she began scolding me for unplugging the air fresheners that were causing my distress. She made it abundantly clear that America's Top Team does not care one iota about my comfort or health. She said, "We're just going to plug them all right back in." She also said they had to use them because the gym "stinks". I realize that it is much simpler to mask the smell of a gym with as many air fresheners as you have electrical sockets instead of actually cleaning it. I returned to the gym on Thursday, October 30th to find that Monica was true to her word and the fragrance was as bad as ever. I could not work out as I had planned as I am unable to tolerate an overwhelming scent of fragrance air fresheners in an enclosed space. But more than that, I am unable to tolerate the open hostility I was shown by Monica. I am also really bothered by the lack of concern for my well-being and the fact that I am not valued as a long time customer. If you are unwilling to stop using the air fresheners, I will not be returning to America's Top Team and will be terminating our membership. Super friendly and world class instruction if you’re looking to get into shape and learn self-defense, you should definitely give this place a try you won’t regret it.
