Don’t ever join this club. If they ever get your credit card or bank account they will continue charging you despite cancelling your membership. They do not answer phone calls voice mails or emails. My daughter graduated in May 2024 from Mississippi State and moved back home. She went in showed her ID filled out the form to cancel her membership in April 2024. We are still being charged monthly. Do NOT join. We are contacting the Better Business Bureau to fight this and be reimbursed.
Moved out of Mississippi due to Military orders and they have continuously charged me for 7 (going on 8) months. Emails and calls are going unanswered. Going to be hiring a lawyer. Do NOT get a membership here.
Do NOT join this gym!! Since leaving Starkville I have been trying to cancel my membership for months only to be perpetually ignored. I'm to the point of closing a credit card account I've had for 25+ years. They are criminals Update... After posting negative reviews and waging a negative social media campaign against this place I finally got someone to even acknowledge me. They finally told me what to do, other than in person, to cancel my membership. If anyone is still having trouble mail a certified letter to Southern Athletic Club, 100 Eckford Dr., Starkville, MS 39759. If you like you can address it to Mr. John Underwood, the owner on record with the Secretary of State's office. My letter is going out today, we'll see if they actually cancel the membership.
I have called within business hours several times over the past two days. We cancelled our membership in person over a year ago and have since moved from Starkville, and my husband got a call yesterday saying we have a bill in collections for over $800. I have another friend who had a similar situation with collections and another who had a hard time after she was charged multiple times in one month. I have yet to hear back from them.
I received a phone call a few months ago about my payment not going through, so I gave an updated card number over the phone & told whomever I spoke to that I needed to terminate my membership. They said that was fine, and thanked me for my time. I go to check my spam email and was still being billed for 6 months after this phone call, but checked my bank account to make sure it didn’t go through (which it didn’t), so I called to see why I was still receiving emails even though I was sure I cancelled my membership. Once calling, they let me know I had an overdue balance of $$$ and I had to pay it and sign paperwork with my ssn or drivers license number to cancel my account. They were able to remove the bounce fees which took money off my balance, but I still owe money on the account. Joe was helpful in trying to bring the cost down, but overall just unhappy with how the termination process went.
