I’ve been bringing my 6 year old daughter here for approximately 2 months. I’m very impressed with how Marcel runs her class. He does a great job at teaching children and displays great patience with. I also like how he handles kids who get frustrated, step out of line, and that are disrespectful. When I was looking for gyms for my daughter, I wanted a balance of teaching and a coach that wouldn’t allow children to be distractions and disrespectful. That’s exactly what you get with Marcel. He runs a great gym. If you are looking for a gym ran by a knowledgeable coach that is great with children, look no further. I’ll be putting my other two kids in Marcel’s program when they get old enough.
What else can I say about Marcel Fortuna, and Brazilian Ju Jitsu academy. He is an exceptional instructor with a deep, well-rounded knowledge of Jiu Jitsu. His teaching has significantly improved my skills, and I’ve gained tremendous confidence in my ground game. I highly recommend this academy—if you’ve ever considered trying Jiu Jitsu or martial arts in general, this is absolutely the place to start.
My now seven year old son started training at Fortuna BJJ at the beginning of 2024. I enrolled him because I wanted him to build self-discipline, learn control, and grow in self-confidence. It’s been one of the best decisions I’ve made. Sensei Marcel is phenomenal with the kids he creates a structured yet fun environment that keeps them motivated and focused. Watching my son’s growth and enthusiasm inspired me to join the gym myself. I’ve started training in both BJJ and kickboxing. I’ve always considered myself a regular gym goer, but these workouts are on a whole different level mentally and physically challenging, yet incredibly empowering. What really sets Fortuna BJJ apart is the community. Even if you have zero experience and feel intimidated at first, the welcoming and supportive atmosphere quickly puts you at ease. The coaches and members are friendly, encouraging, and genuinely invested in helping you improve. I can’t recommend this place enough. Whether you’re looking for a new challenge, a supportive environment for your kids, or just a great workout, Fortuna BJJ has it all.
I’ve been training at this gym for over 2 years now, and it’s hands-down one of the best decisions I’ve made. Marcel is an incredible instructor—his knowledge of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is second to none, and he has a way of breaking down complex techniques so they’re easy to understand and apply. No matter what question I’ve had, he’s always been able to give a clear, detailed answer that shows his deep experience in the sport. The environment here is also top-notch, welcoming, challenging, and full of people who are serious about getting better. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned grappler, you’ll find exactly what you need to improve. Highly recommend this gym to anyone looking to level up their BJJ game or just train with great people under world-class coaching.
FIrst impression. The gym itself has a very welcoming vibe, when i walked in there were several parents sitting, watching their kids learn Jiu Jitsu. I noticed that Professor Marcel is great with kids along side Daniel who is an assistant coach and has kids enrolled there as well! They keep the facility impeccabley clean! I can’t believe it’s such a small gym. but that often makes for better, more detailed instuction with smaller classes and let me tell you after two weeks here, i think its better than 2 months at some other gyms I’ve been to! What i really like about the class itself, is the warm up drills and the laid back instruction Professor Marcel provides! Right when i don’t think he’s paying attention he pops up and sais “good job!” or corrects you on what you did wrong! I find Marcel to be a true man of character! He’s very laid back and has his head on his shoulders! He’s mentally and emotionally sound and by far the "VERY BEST" Jiu Jitsu intructor in the area! Everyone that trains there is very welcoming and it felt like joining a family on the very first day there! I’ve been to gyms where I’ve felt welcomed at first only to feel like it was a dysfuntioncal family later! You don’t get that at Fortuna BJJ! I was really impressed by the ladies that train here as well, not just in Bjj but in Kickboxing also! So if theres any ladies reading this and feel intimidated at the thought of joining, don’t be! If your looking for somewhere to start your Martial Arts Journey, I assure you this is the place! Professor Marcel really knows his stuff! I recomend this place over any gym in the area! Especially for your kids! Marcel is the type of guy I would want my kid looking up to if i had one! Five out of Five Stars!
