I’ve been coming here for the past 4 years! Coach Frank does a great job making you feel welcome and comfortable, I’ll never regret making this gym my home gym. Duke City Underdogs is more than a training facility — it’s a refuge for kids who need direction, stability, and someone in their corner. What’s happening there goes far beyond punches and footwork. Coach Frank carries this program on his own shoulders while balancing a full-time job and raising a child. That alone says a lot. This isn’t a business built on profit — it’s built on sacrifice, commitment, and a genuine desire to see young people succeed. No matter what’s said about him, he doesn’t waver. He stays grounded, true to himself, and focused on the bigger picture. Instead of reacting to negativity, he keeps showing up. That consistency is what makes the difference. For many of these kids, this gym is not only a second home, but the only place that feels like home. It offers accountability, structure, and a sense of belonging that can change the direction of a life. The impact being made here is real, and it deserves to be recognized.
Duke City Underdogs is more than just a boxing gym — it’s a safe space for kids and young people who may not have one anywhere else. For many, this gym provides structure, guidance, and consistency when life outside of it isn’t always easy. Coach Frank runs this gym on his own, out of the kindness of his heart, while working a full-time job. This isn’t about money or profit — it’s about giving back, building discipline, and creating opportunity. The time, energy, and sacrifice he pours into these kids speaks for itself. Even when coaches have moved on to opportunities that offered more financial benefit, the gym has continued to stand strong. Through dedication, resilience, and community support, Coach Frank has always managed to keep the doors open and the mission alive. He also welcomes positive involvement from the community. Anyone who has concerns about the gym and truly wants to help these kids succeed is encouraged to contribute in meaningful ways. This program is built on effort, accountability, and people coming together to support youth who are willing to work toward their goals. If you’re looking for a place that truly cares about its athletes beyond the sport, Duke City Underdogs is that place.
Duke City Underdogs is a phenomenal boxing gym that teaches loyalty, discipline, and respect. Head Coach Frankie looks out for every kid in his gym — whether they’ve been there for a day, a week, or years. As far as “favoritism” goes, that’s simply not the case. Coach Frankie gives one-on-one time to the kids who show dedication and put in the work. He welcomes everyone into his gym, no matter where you come from or what you look like. It’s not about image — it’s about heart and effort. This gym gives opportunities to kids who might be judged elsewhere based on their looks or circumstances. Whether someone has faced homelessness or had a difficult upbringing, that’s never a reason to be turned away from becoming their best self. Frankie judges no one and accepts everyone. He’s authentic and always 100% himself, no matter the situation. Sparring is a privilege earned by the boxers who put in the work and want to improve. It only happens with willingness, parental permission, and when they’re ready. Boxers are matched within their skill level or work with older, more experienced athletes who prioritize safety and control. The focus is always on growth, discipline, and learning. This gym changes lives. If you’re looking for structure, accountability, and a coach who truly cares, this is the place.
Oh, this gym? It's a solid 0 out of 10! Perfect for your kids if you want them to experience the absolute worst. My two little ones were there about a month ago, and let me tell you, it was a real treat. They never even got a glance from the main coach. We really went just to waste our time. And don’t even get me started on the neighborhood the windows are all broken, making it a dangerous facility for kids. Honestly, the city needs to step in. It’s unacceptable for a place meant for children to be so neglected. What a gem!
I work with coach Dre and I really appreciate his approach. As someone with no previous boxing experience I felt pretty unsure of myself when I started, but Dre is patient, confident, and adapts his lessons based on your experience level while also pushing you to improve. The sessions are never boring, there's a great mix of strength training, footwork, and bag work. I always look forward to it!
