I’ve trained Muay Thai for a long time, and enjoyed joining 36 Chambers! It has been a great experience. The gym is very welcoming, and the classes are friendly and supportive. The coaches do a great job working with people at all experience levels. It’s a great place to train, improve your skills, and feel part of a strong community.
My son attended the Sensei Seth’s class for two years. I honestly can’t say anything bad about the coach — my son really enjoyed the classes, and as a parent I found them well-organized and genuinely beneficial. The facility is okay, nothing special. In the summer it gets very hot inside, but even that would be tolerable. The only — but huge — problem with this school is its management. I had such an terrible experience that I decided to cancel our membership. One day after class my son came home with no smartwatch. He told me that the coach had asked him to take it off. I didn’t notice right away, and by the time I realized, it was too late to go back. Since I could see its location in the app, I wasn’t too worried and went there on their next working day. They were only open for an hour and a half, and I arrived in the middle of that time. The reaction of the owner/administrator, Alex, shocked me. She didn’t help at all — just showed me a box of lost items and told me to look for it myself. I searched the box and the shelves, found nothing, and approached her again. This time she told me she was too busy and that I should wait until the class ended if I wanted to talk to her. No problem, I waited for about half an hour. But after class, her attitude got even worse. She flat-out refused to help me search, refused to call the coach or give me his contact so I could ask myself. She was extremely rude, constantly turning her back to me and making it clear she wanted me gone as quickly as possible. I tried to explain that this wasn’t some cheap toy, but an expensive gadget that also contained my child’s personal data. I showed her the app proving the watch was still there. But she didn’t care, and I had to leave empty-handed. I then sent an email demanding the watch be returned. I wrote that if they didn’t, I would cancel the membership and go to the police to report a theft. I also asked for an apology from Ms. Alex for her behavior. The reply I got (which she clearly wrote herself) blamed me for everything. She said I came back at the wrong time, which apparently meant I didn’t really care about the watch. She claimed I was the confrontal one and that I hadn’t even tried to search (at least 10 people in the room saw me digging through that lost & found box and shelves). She wrote that she had “conducted a thorough search of the facility” and found nothing. She said that I signed a waiver, so they weren’t responsible. And finally, she informed me that she had unilaterally terminated my membership. I was ready to go to the police, but the very next day, I surprisingly received another email — this time much calmer — saying the watch had been found (weren’t you the one telling me just yesterday that there was nothing?). I was given one hour that day or two hours another day to pick it up. Nobody offered a refund (they had charged me for the month the day before the watch went missing, by the way). Nobody apologized. I didn’t want my son to suffer because of all this, so I let him attend two more classes. It was belt testing week, and he had been preparing for his purple belt test for a long time. No, they do not have the right to cancel your membership this way. Once again, I thank the Sensei Seth for being professional and treating my child the same as everyone else. I’m sharing this in hopes it helps someone choosing a martial arts school. As I said, I have no complaints about the coach or the classes. But be aware that if you ever face a problem here, the experience may be extremely unpleasant.
My daughter (12) and I have been taking Muay Thai classes once a week at 36 Chambers and absolutely love it! Coach Alex does a phenomenal job of leading a class with varying skillsets and experience levels. She is informative, demonstrative, and makes sure we are all disciplined in our technique. Conditioning is top notch as well!
My son and myself are both enjoying 36 Chambers immensely. As he has progressed there, I’ve watched him truly bloom. He has straight A’s the last two semesters and an entirely different demeanor. Happier than I’ve ever seen him, he is growing up right before my eyes. I see a direct correlation between his rapid growth off the mat and his hard work on it. We see a bright future that was less certain before I brought him to 36 Chambers. The coaches do a tremendous job of teaching fundamentals, building rapport and tailoring interactions to meet people where they are without compromising core values. If you want to work hard & earn a spot worth having, this is a wonderful gym to do so. Ask for either Alex or Kevin. They both excel in this space.
36 Chambers is a hidden gem! The facility is nice, clean, good location. Great atmosphere. My son first went there, scrawny, 14 yr old, no martial arts background, and started his first class with ease. No judgment, no pettiness. Matt was instructing that night and without hesitation got Caleb set up and warming up. Everyone there is welcoming and focused. The owner, Alex, has it figured out. She’s created an environment of empowerment and grace that stands apart from the rest. Other gym owners should all take notes.
