Unfortunately 2 months ago I left a 5 star review that has to go down to 1. I'll show you the text I sent to the number found on the reviews as a number to reach the owner. "Goodafternoon, I like to begin with saying thanks for all the work you and your staff have put into myself and son maximus these past 4 months. I've been trying to get a second to talk but everything is always pretty busy with classes going on. But I like to bring something to your attention. Before class max was walking to the ready line where the kids line up for class, on his way another child blindsided tackled him knocking him to the ground where he hit the back of his head and lost consciousness for a couple seconds. He got up and continued but since starting classes myself I've learned that you can seem perfectly OK and still be concussed. I let it go as boys rough housing. But before max was tackled there was a kid that had his belt running with it, max was in chase and so was another kid, the other kid pushed max into the kid with a belt, max took his belt back and the other kid even apologized for pushing max into him. That small kid ended up being the brother of the kid that blindsided him. I still let it go as a one time thing but it's been something I've been concerned about. Fast forward to last Tuesday, I over heard the mother tell her 3 year old daughter that was crying to go after the person she was crying about and put her knuckles into their solar plex and ribs. Last Saturday the girl came out of nowhere and gave max a slap in the chest which was not threatening until I heard the parent sending her kid to go do it. (Im more worried about the girl more than max) The staff there is amazing and has addressed this often but it has never been extended to before and after class. I've had other parents wanting me to step forward when they was having similar issues who no longer go there, they had two kids in both muia thia and bjj, so that's a total of 7 memberships just from what I know. I don't feel safe to have maximus play before class because of this. I love the rough play and absolutely love the program, they're having the time of their lives but this was dangerous and I'm worried..." I didn't receive a reply and the last lesson my kid was in, there was allot of fist bumps and he-man greetings between the families that are apart of a this clique. Some of them have been training with each other for years. Coach Jackson might be the best coach I've came acrossed in any sport and I believe if I talked to him first it would of been handled because he's a very respectful competitor and teaches the kids at paces they can understand and be safe But thats it, im done with bringing my kid there. My only wish is i would of sided with those other parents that this happened to. Kid gets belt ripped off, cries then thrown out of class or knocked out and when you fight back they gain up on you, while the parents and some, of the instructors are fist bumping one another. Again all my kid and another kid was doing was getting their belts back, also how disrespectful to the sport is this form of hazing, its disgraceful for anybody thats ever trained. Have fun... Or maybe I sound soft thats going to be up to you. Im a combat veteran, burnt all the hell, amputation, and I've still taken some good shots in their boxing program and only wanted more. So I dont think im soft but im worried though and rightfully so as I'll be sending my cancelation today, if addressed this place is safe until then be careful, those type of hits, being blind sided, not bracing, especially at this age, can be DEADLY!!!!! If you're thinking that's why it's padded, it was feet from the edge, if he's 3 feet in a different spot, who knows. You judge.
I'm 45, never taken any type of martial arts, and was looking for a place to train to stay active and work on flexibility. Ronin is great. Coaches were very positive. I have Coach Brice for Muay Thai and my nerves about starting this new at 45 went away immediately. Group has good vibe. It's a legit fight gym (there are pro MMA guys around) and at the same time it's very accepting. Just know you can park across the street if you're new.
My son loves training here! Great staff
My young kids have been going here for a few months and we are very happy with the way it’s going for them. Coach Jackson does an outstanding job with making the classes fun while still making sure students are learning and not getting carried away. There are also other good instructors which makes for a good coach-to-student ratio. Coaches also get involved and actually roll with the students to help teach them things which they really enjoy, We couldn’t be happier with the way they’re learning and enjoying their time at Ronin. I see there are a couple of reviews from people who are complaining about having people park around the neighborhood. We have not been told to park in other business lots or anywhere in particular.
Very positive experiences so far for my kids. I have my 7 and 5yr old daughters enrolled in the free week trial and they are really enjoying Jiu Jitsu and Muay Thai. The training is great and I hope to be able to enroll myself at some point. Everyone has been friendly and welcoming so far and the main instructors for both have made sure to spend adequate 1-on-1 time with my girls to help them get started. The Jiu Jitsu 5-7yr old class had about 18 students, so there are moments when things get a little chaotic, but it was well managed overall. There was 1 main instructor (I think her name is Sarah) and two assistants. I personally wasn't there for their first Muay Thai session, but my wife said that Coach Boggs is a natural instructor and did great with the kids. Pricing seems fair and I will for sure be bringing them back at some point when we have the finances.
