I decided to try BTT Happy Valley when I was thinking about quitting BJJ because of injuries and feeling stuck. Since joining, I’ve improved so much and really value Coach Gus’s attention to detail, especially with technical adjustments, and his strong emphasis on injury prevention — given my age and history. As a Brazilian, training with other Brazilians adds to the authentic vibe. The community is friendly, and the music is always great.

I live in Washington, but every time I’m in Portland, I make sure to train here! 😊 Gustavo Bessa is an excellent professor! 🙌 The techniques I’ve learned here are solid, and I always get good rolls when I visit. There are lots of different skill levels, and all the teammates I’ve met when dropping in are friendly and welcoming. 10/10—definitely recommend stopping by if you’re in the area. Solid gym! 🔥

Too many good things to say about this place!! Perfect for all ages, especially kids! All warm ups, drills, rolls, and games are specifically catered to their development in jiujitsu and overall strength. Even with adults, classes are structured for any age group with options for those who choose to, and not to compete!! They also have a strong female presence on the mats in all classes! 💗💗

My kids have been training here for a few months after our gym suddenly closed. Gus and the entire team has been so welcoming to all of us that this temporary transition has been smoother than anticipated. The instruction is great and the students are pushing each other to be better and learn new techniques. The class schedules are great for working families and the variety of classes offered has been nice such as offering striking and wrestling training. We always feel welcome from the moment we walk in the door being greeted by the office lady (sorry I don't know your name!), to stepping on the mats and heading out for the night. Can't say enough good things about this studio. If you are looking for a place for your kids, teens or as an adult to train, this is a great place and location is right off 205 so it's convenience too and the area is safe. BTT PNW & jiu jitsu has made such a positive impact on our family. My 7 year old son came for a 1 week trial a year ago and we've never looked back. The environment the coaches create attracts like-minded students/members so the vibe and energy is always great and feels like home. You can tell everyone at the gym is passionate about teaching and learning and so it never feels like a business. Flash forward to today and our entire family is training due to realizing the mental and physical benefits of this style of martial arts. They offer an affordable family pricing option to incentivize learning as a family.
