I have been training BJJ at Total Defense for over 2 years now, and both of my children have trained here for over 2 years as well. The coaching staff is very knowledgeable and willing to share their experience. I’m happy to say I expect to continue training here for years to come!

Total Defense is a great gym. I dropped in for a few days when visiting. Everyone is very welcoming. The facilities are very clean. Brian’s standup class was excellent, clear and well-organized, safe, and with really nice technical details. The rolls were super fun, tough, and the gym has a great set of people and a friendly culture. Whether a beginner or experienced, this would be a great place to train BJJ.

The fact that people are willing to drive from Lexington just to go to class here I think says something about the quality of the gym. Brian is a great coach and the quality of his instruction is up there with the best of them (also just an all around good guy). The atmosphere of the gym is always welcoming and friendly. Whether you're a drop in or are new to martial arts, TD is a fantastic place to train.

This is a great gym! Everyone is super welcoming, from the instructors on down to the lowest white belts. They teach good clean technique and everyone I've rolled with there was respectful and safe to roll with (no unnecessary roughness or uncontrolled movements). I started training there as a white belt when the gym was under different management. I'm a purple belt now living too far away to make it back very often, but I always enjoy any chance I get to go back and train there. The head instructor, Brian Rose, has solid skills and you will get good if you are consistent in attending classes! And if you're considering visiting, Brian probably won't even charge a mat fee.

I’ve been training BJJ for well over 20 years. I’ve always been a little hesitant to drop in to gyms while traveling. I found this gym online and asked about dropping in. I was welcomed with open arms. I was extremely impressed with the school. The school was clean, organized and most importantly had an atmosphere that showed the most important aspects of jiu-jitsu; humility and respect. If I lived in the area, I would gladly make this my permanent gym. I cannot recommend this place enough. You will not go wrong training here!
