I joined Pennsylvania Combat Sports a little over a month ago and it has been an excellent experience. I am beginning this journey at 50 years of age yet Casey (owner), all students, and coaches have been welcoming and encouraging. The instructors are highly decorated and skilled to provide a safe and legitimate training. These classes are challenging and rewarding, so I would encourage those looking to learn or enhance their current BJJ/Combat sport skills to the next level, to do so here. Pennsylvania Combat Sports has made the intimidating step of joining a new sport and gym a true pleasure (with a lot of sweat and grit of course).
I started training at PA combat sports about a year and a half ago. When I first signed up I was nervous trying out a new sport, especially my first combat sport. I started in the striking class and quickly found out that there was nothing to be nervous about. The coaches here start you out with basic techniques to ease you into the more advanced stuff at your own pace. Many other students were helpful during our partner drilling. I think the culture at a gym is probably the most important aspect determining if you succeed or fail. I can honestly say every person here is kind and you feel like a part of a team. Now I am enrolled in striking and Bjj classes. Between both classes my confidence and fitness are both increasing every week. I plan on training here for a long time and highly recommend it to anyone interested in combat sports/MMA/BJJ.
Anyone looking for a place to get involved in combat sports, self defense etc. should stop their search and head into PACS. Professor Casey and the coaches under him are the most professional and knowledgeable coaches I’ve personally dealt with. They are truly passionate about teaching and guiding their students on and off the mat. PACS is a no nonsense gym and they hold there student accountable and make sure everyone is treated with respect. I can’t say enough good things about PACS and encourage anyone contemplating, to take the leap and get in the gym.
I have been training here for almost 3 years, and I was weary at first being 1 of few women in a martial arts gym, but I can confidently say that everyone welcomed me in with open arms and still continue to work with me and push me to better myself everyday. I look forward to being there every week not only is it a good work out and good learning environment but you’re building connections with people who all help each other learn how to defend yourself, or just become stronger as a person in general. 10/10 recommend to any one who wants to learn a martial art!
To anyone who is thinking about trying BJJ or Combat Sports, you should go for it! And Pennsylvania Combat Sports (PACS) is the place to be! Joining PACS has been a positive, life-changing experience for me. In the past, I was shy, lacked confidence, and was looking for an outlet to help me feel better about myself. I was also looking for a challenge to help myself grow as a man, father, and individual. I was able to find and fulfill this challenge when I found PACS. When I initially started at PACS, I began with their BJJ 101 classes. The 101 classes are a fantastic way to ease into the art, while also getting yourself into better shape and building mental fortitude. I enjoyed and benefited from these classes so much that I eventually started their Striking 101 and MMA 101 classes as well. Since joining, I’ve competed, earned my blue belt (an achievement I am very proud of), started sparring regularly, and most importantly, made a bunch of great friends along the way. I can’t say enough about the skills I have learned and the mental/physical benefits PACS has brought to my life! These days, I feel like a more well-balanced man who is motivated to continue bettering myself. A lot of it has to do with the tradition and stability that this program has welcomed into my life. I can’t thank Professor Casey and all the other professors and coaches enough for continuing to help me grow! You’re all the best!
