Great place to train. Coach Steven "Spyder" Hemphill is very influential and an awesome instructor. He is well versed in boxing and kickboxing and is in the kickboxing hall of fame. A true martial artist, you'll always benefit visiting GOW.
If you are interested in a boxing gym with not just some of the best boxers but some of the best people you could hope to get to know, you should come here - whether you're a novice, an amateur, a pro, or you just want to get a great workout.
I love this place. I've been going for a while now and have always felt welcomed. Spyder is an amazing coach, teacher, mentor and person. His son, Sean, is as well.
Coach and owner Spyder Hemphill is a national treasure and a truly decent and kind person whose business you can feel proud to support. The Broad Street Gym has a variety of bags (heavy, double-ended, wall) as well as other workout equipment including free weights, several weight machines, a treadmill, and a stationary bike. There is also a boxing ring for training and sparring. The gym has plenty of equipment sanitizer available and two garage-type doors that are often open for air circulation. Membership is reasonably priced and parking is easy to find. Coach Spyder has a deep knowledge of effective fighting technique and is always willing to impart advice. This gym has the best camaraderie of any boxing gym in New Orleans -- owners, trainers, and members are friendly and welcoming.
Coach Spyder Hemphill is the most knowledgeable functional combat instructor that I have had the honor to meet, and train under. He has created champions and is a former champion himself. He has the hard-earned knowledge of what it takes to reach the pinnacle of combat sports physically, mentally, and spiritually. As a life-long martial artist I consider myself priveleged to have worked with Spyder and am honored to call him my teacher and friend.
