My husband was active in Rock Steady Boxing - Tri city Seacoast, for several years. He loved going and loved being with others who also struggled with Parkinson's Disease. Steve Warren, the Coach and owner of the club, worked each person to their ability, and a little more. He was so patient with each student.

I used to train in Shotokan in my teens and early twenties, but like many I let the busyness of “life” get in the way. After nearly a 20-year pause, I was fortunate enough to discover Rochester Shotokan Karate Dojo. Warren Sensei provides a welcoming yet rigorous traditional karate experience. This dojo is exactly what I need as a busy parent and professional: It gives me a place to grow mentally and physically, a great community and feeds my desire to always learn. My spirit always leaves the dojo full (and my body tired!). For anyone looking for personal growth, I cannot recommend this dojo and Warren Sensei enough!

I've attended Steve Warren's Rock Steady Boxing workout twice a week for more than a year. Steve is an excellent instructor. He knows the research on Parkinson's well and he knows how to apply it in safe and varied exercises--stretching, cardio, heavy and speed bag work, and cognitive activities. He keeps it interesting and challenging.

You are the best Dopinator! We have some fun at Seacoast Rock Steady Boxing too, don't we! Hence the nicknames that we give (or you choose for yourself). Fighting PD is not just a physical fight. PD attacks one's motivation and well-being as well as creating cognitive challenges. As you mentioned, our RSB workouts include the integration of cognitive challenges both with physical and mental exercises. Boxers overcome shared adversity continually in an environment sometimes described as "My People". People should know that Rock Steady Boxing is a proprietary program for people with, or those who support those with Parkinson's disease exclusively. Thank again.

Definitely still in business! My daughter and myself trained under Sensei Warren for several years. She started when she was about 8 years old and continued through high school. When she is home on college breaks she makes a point to get over to the dojo and train. She is in graduate school now and, still, to this day, she attributes much of her personal and academic success to the discipline and integrity she learned through training with Sensei Warren. While it was not an easy road, she is proud of the fact that every grade promotion was definitely earned and worth the effort. As a parent, I will say this was one of the best decisions I ever made. I am incredibly proud of the adult she has become and thank Sensei Warren for contributing to this outcome. Additionally, the comrade among the members is incredibly strong and supportive. Personally, training became a priority and commitment that I enjoyed and found to be an overall stress relief. I cannot recommend this dojo enough, especially for students who struggle with ADHD, other learning disabilities, or who are just in need of structure and support. If my daughter were not out in New Mexico for graduate school, she would be training with Sensei Warren to this day, several times per week. This is a committed instructor.

Thank you, Melissa for your review. The quality of a dojo is defined by the dedication and commitment not only of the instructor, but that of the members that support it. The Rochester Shotokan Karate Dojo is the longest continuously running dojo in the seacoast for a reason. It is due to the mentoring and high expectations held over the years since 1977 by the membership itself. The strength of character and camaraderie that is developed through the shared adversity the training provides creates strong bonds, friendships and experiences that influence lives and are never forgotten. You and Maria have deep roots in the maintenance of this environment and it is appreciated.

My son has been practicing karate at this place for three years, and we can confidently say that it is a great experience for him. Sensei Steven is an exceptional coach who brings a blend of expertise and discipline to the class. The staff are friendly and supportive, creating a positive training environment.

Thank you. It is a pleasure to help reinforce and strengthen the values that members bring from home. It motivates us to work harder to build confidence and self-esteem for their future success.
