I was originally going to update my review after a year of being at Vintage Boxing gym to really give people an idea of what you can accomplish here, but I figure 7-8 months is good enough. I’m leaving my original review after my first day here for people who are wondering about getting into boxing, but I want to showcase the potential development the coaching at this gym is capable of giving you in a short amount of time. I walked into this gym about 7-8 months ago at 250lbs, never been in a fight before, 0 boxing experience, unhealthy, terrible diet, no clue what I was doing. In 7 months at this gym, I’ve lost 50lbs, made an entirely new friend group, gained a level of athleticism I didn’t even have when playing football, can spar multiple rounds with competitive fighters, can get knocked down and get back up with a smile, constantly am testing the extents of what my body is capable of. In just 7 months this gym changed me from an extremely overweight, unhealthy dude who’d trip over his own feet, to a fighter standing in a ring in front of over 100+ people. If you just want to lose weight and get in amazing shape… this is the place, if you want to learn how to defend yourself… this is the place, if you want to learn how to box competitively… this is the place. Vintage Boxing can, and will, change your life if you let it. Coach Eric and Liz created one of the best businesses in Richmond, and if you really want to change your life, this place will do it. Original review February 2025: So I’ve been in weightlifting gyms all my life for sports, football/baseball/ wrestling, you name it. This was the first time I’ve ever stepped foot into a boxing gym, and I was fairly nervous because my unfamiliarity with the sport, techniques, environment, etiquette. To say this place put all those nerves at ease instantaneously would be an understatement. I met Josh who signed me up the previous day, I made sure he knew I was an idiot to the sport and had no clue what I was doing. While I was stumbling over my words of why I wanted to join this gym, he quickly and tactfully managed to make me feel like I belonged there. This feeling of belonging and community continued into the next day where I had my first training session with Eric. Everyone (and I mean absolutely everyone in the gym) was welcoming, social, and made you feel like you’re making the right choice. My entire athletic career in football (I played for 11 years) I never had this feeling when walking into a new athletic facility with new faces, teammates, or coaches, for the first time. If you’re on the edge of wanting to join something like this, and what I described above is what is worrying you… this gym is the place for you to go. For me this was a wonderful first day, and I’m hoping to get better each time I go. The hardest part was genuinely making the decision to do it, and this gym, the staff, and the gym goers make it feel easy.

Very nice boxing gym. I am from out of town so I dropped in for 3 boxing classes to get some work in. They were all great. Coaching was very solid -- tactful but direct. Facilities were great. People were very nice. Highly recommend, especially if you are a boxer and looking to drop in from out of town.

We had a great experience with Marcus at Vintage Gym in Richmond. He guided us through an introductory boxing class and was both patient and knowledgeable. Marcus took the time to make sure my husband and I had our positioning right, which really helped us feel confident. We were so impressed that we even signed our boys up to join—making it a fun family affair. Excited to see where this journey takes us!

This gym is by far the best gym I’ve ever experienced — the classes run smoothly, they know what they’re talking about, the gym is super involved in the community, and the culture is amazing! Coach Eric looks super intimidating, but he is one of the nicest people I’ve ever met! I’ve been going for about 2-3 months, and I’ve seen major growth- both physically and in my skill set as a boxer! If you are on the fence, definitely try one month out, and be sure to attend the Strength & Conditioning too! It’s a life changer!
