My son has been training at Yamasaki Academy Woodbridge for over three years, and he absolutely loves it! In that time, he has grown tremendously — both mentally and physically. The jiu-jitsu program constantly motivates him to work harder and improve, and I couldn’t be happier with the results. The coaches here are outstanding. Coach Joe, Coach Scott, Coach Eris, Coach Brandon, and Coach Ray all dedicate so much time and attention to helping each student reach their full potential. Their patience, encouragement, and passion for what they do truly make a difference. What makes Yamasaki even more special is the sense of community. My son and I both feel like we’re part of a family here. Everyone is so welcoming and supportive. Although I don’t train in martial arts myself, I do attend the body conditioning classes on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays — and I love them! If you’re looking for that extra push or just want a great workout, I highly recommend giving these classes a try. Thank you to everyone at Yamasaki Academy Woodbridge for creating such a positive, motivating, and family-oriented environment!

Love training at Yamasaki Academy Woodbridge with coach Joe and all the other coaches. It’s like a home away from home. Everyone is very welcoming and friendly. Most of the students, adults and kids are long term members which says a lot about the family oriented environment. Highly recommend!

Second trial class here same large and aggressive dogs at the front desk. What reputable business things it's alright to keep aggressive dogs at the check-in-front desk and to be told to stay away from the front desk. This disregard sets the tone. Owners seemed annoyed from the jump-like we were wasting their time- and made zero effort to adjust for a seven year old son's schedule. No flexibility, no warmth. During grappling, my son was literally choking-gagging loud enough for the room to hear it - but the instructors and owners just stood 15 feet away and never stepped in. They were more concerned about talking and working the timer. This happened several times and at one point I was about to stand up and yell at the kid putting my son in a arm lock. Felt very dangerous and I don't trust my son under the instructor and owners supervision. The instructors after explaining the movement, just stand around and provide no correction. Lots of Ego here and very checked out owners and instructors, at least when it comes to children.

This review is long overdue, but it’s easy to recommend Yamasaki Academy Woodbridge to anyone considering training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. What stands out above all is the respectful, responsible culture that Coach Joe has built and maintained. There’s a strong sense of camaraderie among teammates that makes showing up something to look forward to, not just for the training but for the people. The instruction is solid and structured, but never rigid. The coaches always encourage us to experiment and find what works based on our own attributes (or lack thereof 😂). Everyone, from beginners to advanced students, is treated with respect and encouragement. The environment is ego-free, which reflects the leadership and the example set on the mats every day. If you’re thinking about trying out Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu or looking for a new academy to call home, you’ll be in good hands here. The academy also has robust Judo and Muay Thai programs that reflect the same standard set by Coach Joe and the team. There’s also a great strength and conditioning offering that can take your fitness to the next level. Come train with us. You won’t regret it.

Dropped in while my son was on spring break at his grandparents. Professor Joe welcomed us with open arms. Overall good guy. My son enjoyed his class and told me how much he enjoyed his time! The gym is clean, spacious, and an overall good vibe. Highly recommend it.
