The Conn-Greb gym is legit. The moment you walk in, you can tell it’s the real deal. Old-school boxing photos and promotional posters from past matchups line the walls and you immediately feel the history of the club and boxing in general. Punching bags of all shapes and sizes practically dare you to throw jabs, hooks, and body shots before you even start your workout. With two full boxing rings, all the appropriate equipment and professional boxers and trainers on site, everything about this gym feels authentic. Coaching is impeccable. Trainers actually watch you, correct your form, and push you without overdoing it. You’re really learning something every session. These dudes know what they’re doing. And they’re all super kind. They don’t act like tough guys even though they are. It just feels good in here.
I love that it's named after Pittsburgh's two greatest champions, Harry Greb and Billy Conn! The old Conn-Greb Gym was long a "secret" place, a closed off club known only to insiders. Only professionals and dedicated amateur boxers knew its location and were allowed to train there. Now it has relocated, loosened its tight restrictions and opened the doors to the Steel City dedicated. It's not just a gym but has expanded into something of a Pittsburgh cultural center that celebrates the past while grounding itself firmly in the present. It connects with a fascinating historical legacy and tradition that has an effect on anyone who trains there, whether a fitness devotee who wants to get in fighting trim or a dedicated professional looking to get in peak condition for an upcoming fight. The owner is local trainer/promoter/matchmaker Mike McSorley, who in his amateur days trained under top rated 1960s middleweight Johnny Morris (who beat George Benton and Rubin "Hurricane" Carter), so his boxing pedigree has a lineage that is rock solid. If you want a taste of old school Steel City boxing, I cannot recommend this place highly enough.

I am a professional boxer with a pro record of 23-2-1 (23), I trained at this awesome gym for my camp in getting ready for a fight. HUGE place, awesome one of a kind equipment. No one outside of Cuba has a bag carousel much less knows what it is. This is the only place in the US to my knowledge. Everything is clean, new, and spacious. Posters of Pittsburgh fighters and fight posters are on the walls. This is an ideal place to train. Close to everything. Totally safe to park, run to, bike to. Great area. Mr. McSorley is an excellent trainer with patience and an educated eye for detail. From the fundamentals to the advanced pro fighters he trains and promotes he is as good as it gets. An excellent world class trainer in a world class one of a kind facility. - I know as I trained for years at Gleasons in Brooklyn and dozens of NY and PA gyms since 1990. This is a one of a kind- what a boxing gym should aspire to be. I will for sure be holding all my camps here in the future. Get there now- they have classes, one on one training, complete weights and conditioning equipment (olympic set with numerous squat racks, benches, dumbbells, etc.) that are as good as or better than big box commercial gyms for sure. I didn't go to any commercial gyms for my weight training as they have it ALL. A great place- get over there asap and you will see why this is quickly becoming the place to train, learn, and succeed.
Great gym with old school vibes and a fantastic atmosphere that’s not at all intimidating to a beginner. Tons of options and equipment as well as expertise. All around a great experience training there and would recommend to anyone, especially if you are just starting out. I started training here with Mike and now I’m completely hooked. He’s an excellent instructor. The sessions are a great workout and way to learn something new.
