2 years of grappling experience visiting Salt Lake City from New Jersey. I took a noon class with TJ. Professor TJ and members of the school were super friendly. TJ did a great job teaching the class and working through mechanics from start to finish. The particular class I attended we did some leg locks, which can be intimidating, but TJ walked us through step by step by step and emphasized safety and being careful with our training partners. 10/10 would recommend for both experienced grapplers dropping in as well as new members in the area looking to start the sport!

I had an amazing experience at this gym. One of my favorite gyms by far. I travel a bit for work and always call ahead to see if I can train while I'm in town. Samson (the head instructor) picked up the phone and met me with great vibes when I arrived. I went to a couple of classes, and if it was Samson or TJ, I got great technique and a lot of attention. You can tell that they love Jiu-Jitsu, and they just want their students to love it the same way. The live rolls were competitive, but everyone there was respectful and rolled to their partner's level of experience. The atmosphere was great, and I hated to have to leave Salt Lake City and get back home. If you're in Salt Lake, I'd definitely suggest rolling at Combat Arts!

Professor McKean was kind enough to let me drop in for open mat on a Saturday when I was in town. The gym is very welcoming and friendly to visitors and the location / pedagogy here is great. My favorite thing about visiting gym is finding holes in my game and learning things to take back to my home gym. Plus I got absolutely ragdolled by a kid half my age and at least eighty pounds less than me, which always humbles me and keeps me from getting complacent. Thank you, Professor McKean!

Great martial arts school with professional and encouraging instructors. The classes are well-organized, and the atmosphere is positive and motivating. Perfect place for both beginners and experienced students!

This time business took me to the beautiful Salt Lake City. Wanting to keep up my training, I reached out to John McKean via the Combat Art’s Instagram and he welcomed me graciously. I had a fantastic time under the tutelage of John. He and I had a great conversation about BJJ culture and the importance of being a good host when you have drop-in visitors and being a gracious visitor. The class was informative and packed with a whole range of skill level. Facilities are clean and a shower is available.
