I can’t recommend training with Kelly enough I used to box competitively for years, both as a fighter and later as a coach, so I’m used to pushing my body hard. But after years of wear and tear (and some bad habits too), my body just wasn’t responding anymore. Every time I tried to really get back into training, I’d eventually hit a wall and physically break down Ever since I started training pilates + strength/mobility with Kelly, that’s completely changed. I’ve lost weight, gained muscle, but the biggest thing is that my body can actually handle the workload again. Since training with her, I’ve ran a 10-mile race, a half marathon, and really stepped my sparring and boxing game back up too What I really appreciate about Kelly is that the training never feels stale. She’s always coming up with new exercises and movements that keep me engaged while still pushing me. And on top of all that, she’s just an awesome person to be around. Positive energy, supportive, genuinely cares, and exactly the kind of person you want in your corner

Urban Boxing Navy Yard has honestly been such a great experience. Rob at the front desk is always welcoming and really attentive, he makes it feel easy and comfortable as soon as you walk in. DeCarlos is a great instructor, his classes push you but are still fun and engaging the whole time. What really stands out is how real everyone is. You can tell they genuinely enjoy what they do and actually like interacting with the people who come in. It never feels forced. At the same time, they take it seriously and really care about your development, your growth, and your overall well being. I also felt like there was real intention in getting to know me. They remembered my name, took the time to understand me beyond just the classes, and that really helped build a genuine connection. That kind of rapport made me even more committed and excited to keep showing up.

I’ve tried 9Round Fitness and Mayweather Boxing for years, and while I was always getting a solid cardio workout, I eventually realized something was missing — I wasn’t actually learning the fundamentals of boxing. That all changed when I joined Urban Boxing Navy Yard. What sets this gym apart is that you’re not just sweating — you’re learning the science and craft of boxing. The coaches focus on technique, footwork, combinations, and real skill development. I mainly attend the boxing classes, so here’s my breakdown of the coaches and the experience: Coach Elliot – His Level 1 classes are perfect for learning the fundamentals and building solid footwork. When you move to Level 2, he takes those fundamentals and applies them with partner work. You’ll definitely be challenged, but the environment is supportive and focused on growth. Coach Mike – If you want a boxing boot camp experience, Mike’s classes are where it’s at. You’ll learn creative combinations and finish with a boot camp-style circuit that ensures you’re conditioned to go the distance. Coach Jordan – Jordan’s Level 1 classes are very combination-focused and you’re guaranteed to learn something new no matter your experience level. Level 2 classes take it up a notch with complex combinations and evolving footwork that builds each round. You always leave feeling accomplished. Coach DeCarlos – His classes blend everything: boxing drills, partner work, and conditioning circuits. DeCarlos brings a lot of personality to the room, which makes the sweat feel a little sweeter — but don’t get it twisted, he’s going to challenge you. Coach Will (“WarChild”) – Will brings a military-style, no-nonsense energy. His classes are intense, but they push you past what you thought your limits were. Some of the best boxing tips I’ve learned have come from his classes. The Staff – Rob, Sam, and Que truly make the gym feel like a community. I’m there almost daily, and I genuinely look forward to seeing them. As cliché as it sounds, this gym has become like family. And on the days when your body doesn’t feel like showing up, having that kind of community makes all the difference. If you’re looking for a place where you can actually learn boxing while getting in incredible shape, Urban Boxing Navy Yard is it.

I started boxing at the Navy Yard location a few months ago and it's been amazing. The trainers, especially Robert and Jordan, are not only friendly but super helpful and encouraging. I never really felt comfortable in gyms since I never knew what I was doing (call it imposter syndrome) but at Urban Boxing that doesn't matter. The staff here are hands on and help with proper form and give nutritional tips even if you're just dropping by for short visit it. If you're looking for a great place to work out in D.C., particularily in Navy Yard, this is the place to go!

Just wanted to share some love for Kelly and Urban Boxing. I was nervous to start working out again, but she made me feel comfortable right away. She’s become not only a great trainer, but a great friend. We do a mix of strength training and boxing. She’s so experienced and badass. I usually hate working out, but going there has honestly become the highlight of my week. It’s just an overall really positive, motivating place to be, and I’m so glad I found it.
