The Johnson is one of two gyms at the University of Kentucky and I think it is the better one of the two. The reason I think that is because of the mirrors and it not being as crowded as Alumni. The Johnson Center also has more stuff to do other than workout they have basketball courts, a rock climbing wall, an aquatic center, personal classes, and you can go online and reserve spots so you don't have to guess if you are going to get a spot or not. The weightlifting are is powerlifter friendly. They have a upstarirs and a downstairs area for weghtlifting. downstairs have your squat racks and heaver dumbbells while upstairs is filled with more machines and also dumbbells but they aren't as heavy as the ones downstairs. The rock climbing wall is very cool everyone should check it out!
The Johnson Center is one of the best perks of being a UK student since it's completely free to use and has everything you could need for a workout. The space is huge and very well maintained. There's two floors filled with all kinds of weight machines, benches, and cardio equipment, as well as mats if you're just looking to get in a quick core workout. There's also an indoor basketball court, a track that wraps around the basketball court, and even an indoor rock climbing wall that is super fun to watch people try while doing your workout. One of my favorite parts of The Johnson Center is that they have a wide variety of workout classes like yoga, cycling, and strength training, which makes it easy to stay motivated because they're so easy to sign up for and so much fun to go to. The gym is always clean, the staff is amazing, and there's plenty of space to do your own thing. Overall, The Johnson Center is an amazing place to stay active and take advantage of everything UK has to offer.
I really enjoy the Johnson Center. It has everything that a person needs to be active and healthy. It has a very good rock wall with some good routes that change throughout the year at all different levels of climbing. Plus it's super simple to get signed up. There are tons of basketball courts with a lot of people playing so you can always hop in a game whether you are alone or with a group. In my opinion the weight lifting gym is alright in my opinion, It is a little small and crowded but overall all the equipment is quite nice and if you are just looking for a good gym and are a student I would recommend lofting here. The workers at the johnson center are nice especially the workers at the rock wall they were very nice and helpful. Overall I would recommend going here one-hundred percent of the time.
Johnson center is one of the best spaces on campus. When I first came to the University of Kentucky, the first thing I asked was if they had a gym and I wanted to go and check it out. They have basketball, Volleyball, Climbing, work out equipment and a big field outside where you can play football, soccer and other things. I love working out and playing basketball. Basketball relieves stress because I am focused on playing and I forget all about assignments and just genuinely have fun. Working out is also important because it’s healthy for your body. It’s also a great place to make friends because you will meet people who have the same interests as you. The staff there are nice and will assist you with whatever you need and towels are never out . I recommend everyone to check it out and have fun with whatever they try to do.
The Johnson Center rock wall is very cool. It is free for students and they provide any equipment you need to be able to climb including climbing shoes, a harness and even chalk. The staff are very helpful with learning, and they are very cool people to talk with. The wall is kind of small for top rope at only 26 feet, but the route setting is very fun and creative as the routes get more difficult. There are routes for all skill levels, usually ranging from 5.6 - 5.12a-b, and the route setters regularly add around 2-3 new routes per week. The only downside of this gym is that there is no designated bouldering area, however you can boulder up to a line marked by red tape, but there are usually no bouldering routes set. This is not going to be an issue for long because they are currently renovating and planning to add taller top rope walls and a new bouldering section.
