Simply put Fenix is the place to train if you're in Hickory or the surrounding areas. Not only does it's Jiu Jitsu hold up all across the country, but the people there are second to none. The environment is accepting, inclusive, and warm for all walks of life. Obviously people train for any number of reasons, and if you respect the students at Fenix, they'll respect you right back. I've spent the last 5 years at this facility and can genuinely say the environment grew me as a person. I couldn't recommend Fenix enough, and I hope after you read this and join you'll get out the same experience I have. See you on the mats!
What I like about this team in particular is that even at my level I’m seeing new ways to approach the same problems I’ve seen for the last 12 years of training. It’s refreshing to love the martial art I fell in love with all over again. The best part is the team is super chill and that’s very needed in this time of Jiu-Jitsu and how it’s evolving into a competition focused sport. Thank you for allowing me to come in and not expecting anything from me. It’s truly appreciated!

If you are considering another school in the area, you are missing out! I have been in high level professional training around the world, and have given a few myself. So, believe me when I say Professor Jason has a unique talent. While still a beginner, the fundamental skills I have learned here have stood out when tested elsewhere. Whether looking to learn self defense, or stand out in competition, this is the place! They bring in instructors from around the world to help students learn. I cant believe this top tier talent exists in Hickory! Its so good I enrolled my neurodivergent children. Amazing. We are not just becoming better at BJJ, we are becoming better people. My four kids joined the Back-to-School 6 Week Challenge, and it’s been an amazing experience! They started with no knowledge of Jiu Jitsu, and within just six weeks they’ve learned so much and gained a lot of confidence. The staff members are all wonderful - patient, encouraging, and great with kids. We’ve decided to continue even after the 6 weeks because my kids love it so much. Definitely recommend this place to any parents looking for a fun, positive, and confidence-building activity for their kids!
